Job Description Summary:Monitors and maintains one or more instructional audio, video, and newspaper/magazine/radio production laboratories for mass communication classes used for maintaining the print and online editions of the student newspaper and magazine, the television and audio broadcast and assists students to develop and improve skills in the areas of journalism and media production.
Instructs students individually or in groups by providing tutorial assistance in the fundamentals of journalism and journalistic processes including writing and formatting for newspapers and magazines (grammar, spelling, punctuation, copy editing, AP style, etc.), editing and filming video, light web and graphic design.
Stores equipment and keeps storerooms and working areas orderly and clean. Manages equipment and makes suggestions of needed new or replacement equipment. Issues and receives materials and equipment for student use in laboratory and classroom assignments; keeps records and effects the return of materials and equipment checked out to students. Maintains inventory records of supplies and equipment and prepares periodic inventory reports and requisitions.
Minimum Qualifications:Associate’s degree in Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, Advertising or related field.
One (1) year experience providing journalistic review of written and visual communication content.
Preferred Qualifications:Two (2) years experience providing journalistic review of written and visual communication content.
Student publications experience.
Community college experience.
Experience working with nontraditional, diverse populations.
Experience coordinating and planning conventions and special events.
Experience using social media in a professional setting.
